Day 165: The Return of Zazzle

Today is my little attempt to get back into making designs for Zazzle. I can't go whole-hog until I re-install all the fonts I used for all my button designs, but making small round things works well enough, since they require minimal adjustment of the original files.

So, in honor of Gay Pride Month, I give you the Homophobia is Gay keychain.

Feel free to purchase one for each of your homophobic pals.

Oh, and I made this as the super fancy keychain, but it can also be bought as a cheapo button keychain, or anything in between.

Day 147: Flags Across America

Yes, it's another map of the United States filled in with stuff. This time I've put in each state's flag. Not much more to say, so here it is.

By the way, some states have really ugly flags. And there's a lot of blue out there.

Day 143: Altered Cheese

Today I took what is quite possibly the cheesiest photo ever taken taken of me and applied various filters and other doodads to it until I felt it fully realized its cheesy potential.

After:

Vive le fromage!

Day 142: Corporate America

Today I made another map of the United States, but this time I put in each state a logo for a company headquartered there. Some states had many options with interesting logos from which to choose, but others not so much. If any of these companies are not actually based in the state I've put them in, blame the internet, or blame my lack of fact-checking. (I guess that qualifies me for employment at Fox News.)
Can you guess all the logos? I'll be really impressed if you can figure out Rhode Island.

Day 135: School's OUT for summer

I submitted the last of my seemingly endless string of assignments today, so school's out! Unfortunately, my summer vacation is only about two weeks long, and I still have to work two jobs during that time, and it's raining like crazy, but it's still my summer vacation so it counts.

In honor of completing my first semester back at grad school, I have made a simple little graphic.
I kind of want to put a big red circle with a slash over it, but it's so pretty.

Now I will return to mumbling Alice Cooper lyrics to myself while watching old episodes of Desperate Housewives. Cleaning up this disaster area from the term paper wreckages can wait until tomorrow.

Day 123: The United States of Flowerica

I wanted to do something different with maps, so today I give you a map I made of the United States populated with an image of each state's State Flower.

Hey, did you know some states have a State Drink, or a State Mammal, or a State Freshwater Fish? Someday I hope to make use of such information, but first I have to figure out how.

P.S. I shamelessly lifted these flower images from the internet. Sorry.

Day 76: Great Glorious Gobs of Greeny Goodness

St. Patrick's Day is my favorite holiday of the year. There's a penalty for not wearing green (my favorite color), I get to have corned beef and cabbage and purple potatoes (possibly my favorite meal, especially when I only get it once a year), and there's no gift-giving trauma. Plus, it's the official holiday of my kitty, Guinness.

So here's my little homage to green.
I shamelessly (or shamefully) stole all these images from the internet without giving any credit to the people who took these superb photos. For that, I apologize. But apparently I don't care enough to go back and find the sources.

I have seriously entertained the notion of writing an entire book on the topic of Green - what it symbolizes, represents, etc. Maybe my passion for the color is a little over the top.

Day 57: A Wordle Conceived in Liberty

I felt like making a Wordle from a famous speech, so I picked Lincoln's Gettysburg address.
For some reason, I'm fascinated by this Wordle thing. I love seeing which words occur most often. I also love hitting the 'random' button over and over again until a layout looks right.

In fact, I liked it so much, I just now went back and made another Wordle, this time from Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech. I thought it was appropriate to put the two together.

Day 56: Martini Glass Doodle

I love the shape of martini glasses. There's something about them that makes my eyes happy. So today's doodle is surrounding a martini glass.

This one is larger than the other doodles I've made, so it took quite a while.

Looks so good, I want to fill it with vodka and vermouth and olives.

Day 39: Wordle-ized February Horoscopes

I have a big fat headache today and was having a hard time coming up with something to make. Then I remembered my old pal Wordle!
This word cloud is comprised of all the "quickie" daily horoscopes for Aries in February, according to Shine. I'm not saying I believe in astrology at all, but it's fun to read and gives me something to focus on each day for "embetterment" of myself. Today I'm supposed to pay more attention to my dreams. It's interesting to see what words pop up frequently in the word cloud, like Take, Go, and Drama. And the random juxtapositions are neat too - Unpredictable Senses is my favorite.

And I even figured out how to screen-capture it so you don't have to follow a link to see this one.

(Click on the image to see it embiggered.)

Day 38: Mini Poster of My Favorite Saying

I'm in the midst of tons and tons and still more tons of reading for grad school. I whipped up this little poster to remind me to keep things in perspective and not get bogged down in despair. This saying has helped me through many difficult times over the last several years, and I expect it will have more work to do in the future.

I would like to eventually re-do it with more interesting fonts and colors and a little more balance and contrast (it's not yet right to my eyes). But it's good for now. In fact, it's not just good - it's good enough.

Day 37: One Last Derby iPhone Case on Zazzle

Okay, this'll be the last one of these for a while.

And yes, there's also an iPhone 3G case for all you Luddites.

Day 34: Roller Derby iPhone Love on Zazzle

I'm getting on a roll with the derby designs (har har). Here's one of my most popular designs, now on cases for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3G.

Great for combining multiple geeky passions in one.

Day 32: Roller Derby Necklace on Zazzle

I made it to Month #2! Here's another addition to my Zazzle store.

It's a necklace that says "If you can't play nice, play roller derby" on a field of blood spatter and a roller skate.

Day 21: Balcony Scene Wordle

Today I only had a few minutes between work and road trip, so I made a word cloud on Wordle.net.

It consists of all the words in the balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet (Act II, Scene ii).

For some reason, it won't let me save the picture itself, so here's a link to it:
My Wordle

Update: Mat did a fancy screen grabby thing, so here's a pic:

Day 19: Pop Art Melleny

Wednesdays are turning into Let's See What I Can Make With My iPhone days. Today I took a picture of myself and made it into pop art using tools on my iPhone.

The newest addition to my Zazzle store.

I hope you like it. And if you don't, you probably need to lighten up. =)

Day 14: Some Kind of Doodle Thing

No, I don't know what it is, but it was fun and engrossing and relaxing while I did it.

It's just doodling. I used a few different black pens on 1/4 of a sheet of white card stock. I intentionally didn't draw anything that was supposed to be something (like watermelon wedges or narwhals).

I kind of want to try something in color, but the black and white appeals to me too.
